We meet today to commemorate a pivotal day in the history of modern Algeria, a day on which the Algerian people once again demonstrated their unwavering resolve, their uncompromising determination, and their profound belief that freedom is a right that is not granted, but rather seized.
On this day in 1962, the Evian Accords were signed, paving the way for a ceasefire and marking the beginning of the end of one of the longest and most brutal periods in modern human history. March 19 was the culmination of a long journey of immense sacrifices and a glorious struggle led by men and women who believed that independence was an inevitable destiny, no matter how long it took or how high the price.
This day has come to affirm to the entire world that the November 1st Revolution was not a fleeting event or an isolated movement, but rather a true expression of the will of an entire people, a people who rejected injustice and tyranny, and stood united behind the National Liberation Army, believing that victory was inevitable.
Among the lessons and insights we draw from this historic day is that freedom can only be preserved through unity, sovereignty can only be protected through unwavering faith in the homeland, and building the future requires the same spirit that shaped the past: a spirit of solidarity, determination, and tireless work. These are values that our country still desperately needs today to face the challenges of development, strengthen national cohesion, and solidify Algeria's position on the regional and international stages.
Commemorating this anniversary is not merely a symbolic gesture, but a national duty aimed at consolidating collective memory and conveying the message of the martyrs to rising generations, so that they may understand the magnitude of the sacrifices made and continue the journey of building with confidence, awareness, and responsibility.
In conclusion, I can only offer my deepest condolences to the families of our righteous martyrs, praying to God Almighty to reward them abundantly on our behalf, and to protect Algeria and its people, and to grant them continued security and stability.
