Mr. Mehadji Athmane
The Ambassador

Athmane Mehadji is an Algerian diplomat and environmental expert with over two decades of experience in multilateral diplomacy and climate governance. Currently serving as Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Kazakhstan.

Environmental Leadership and Climate Expertise
Since 2011, Athmane Mehadji has played a role in shaping Algeria’s climate policy and international environmental engagement. As National Focal Point for both the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD), he has led Algeria’s participation in global negotiations, coordinated national reporting, and guided the development of climate strategies.

Diplomatic Career
Athmane Mehadji has held diplomatic positions in several embassies and missions:
- Minister-Counsellor in Nairobi (2024–2025): Managed bilateral and multilateral relations with Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia; coordinated high-level events and supervised embassy operations.
- First Secretary in Berlin (2014–2018): Participated in COP20 to COP23 and liaised with environmental convention secretariats based in Bonn.
