Speech of the Ambassador on the Occasion of the 72nd Anniversary of the 1st of November 1954
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
We gather today to commemorate the glorious anniversary of the outbreak of the 1st of November Revolution—a momentous national occasion. With pride and honor, we reflect upon one of the brightest chapters in Algeria’s history, and we pay solemn, reverent tribute to the souls of our righteous martyrs, who made the ultimate sacrifice to restore our freedom and safeguard our national dignity.
The 1st of November 1954 marked a decisive turning point in the history of Algeria. It was a moment when the will for liberation rose above all else, signaling the start of a national struggle against colonialism and embodying a nation’s aspirations for independence and sovereignty. Through the Algerian people’s steadfast commitment to its noble goals, their unity, and their dedication to the values of sacrifice and selflessness, the liberation revolution demonstrated the Algerian nation’s capacity to shape its own destiny and defend its legitimate rights, no matter how great the challenges.
While the November Revolution enabled Algeria to regain its national independence, it also established a framework of principles and values that continue to serve as a fundamental reference for successive generations—foremost among them being devotion to the homeland, the unity of the people, a firm commitment to national sovereignty, and a belief in justice and solidarity among nations. Commemorating this enduring anniversary is not merely about recalling the glories of the past; it requires us to draw lessons from it and to safeguard the achievements realized through the sacrifices of the martyrs. It also calls upon us to continue our efforts toward building a strong and prosperous Algeria—one capable of confronting the challenges of the modern era, while remaining steadfast in its national foundations and authentic values.
On this occasion, we renew our gratitude and appreciation to the generation of the Revolution and Liberation. We reaffirm our commitment to the message of November, which shall remain a beacon guiding Algeria’s journey toward further progress, stability, and development. We also acknowledge, with great esteem, the role our nation plays—true to its liberationist legacy—in supporting just international causes, as well as the principles of peace, cooperation, respect for state sovereignty, and the right of peoples to self-determination.
In conclusion, we pay tribute to the souls of the righteous martyrs who forged Algeria’s glory, and we renew our pledge to uphold the trust they bequeathed to successive generations—a trust dedicated to serving the nation, safeguarding its unity, and elevating its stature.
Long live Algeria; glory and immortality to our noble martyrs.
Peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you.
