Tasked by the President of the Republic, Mr. Attaf is representing Algeria at the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly

On the instructions of the President of the Republic, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, arrived today in New York, representing Algeria in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly at its eighty-first session .

Algeria’s participation in this high-level international event falls within the framework of its continued active presence in the multilateral system, and embodies its firm commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at strengthening international peace and security, defending just causes, and promoting cooperation and solidarity among nations and peoples .

In this context, the Minister of State will participate in the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to be held from September 22 to 28, 2026, under the theme: “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers Results for All .”

The high-level segment will witness the organization of a number of high-level meetings, which will address a number of priority issues and challenges on the international agenda, including the high-level meeting dedicated to commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action against Racism and Racial Discrimination, as well as the high-level meeting on rising sea levels, and the high-level meeting on climate action and a just transition .

On the sidelines of the high-level segment of the General Assembly, the Minister of State will participate in a series of ministerial meetings dedicated to discussing a number of regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue and developments in the Middle East, peace and security issues in Africa, as well as digital transformations .

In addition, this participation will witness Algeria’s presence within the various regional and international frameworks and blocs to which it belongs, through participation in coordination meetings and side meetings of the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Group of 77 and China .

In parallel, the Minister of State will hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from brotherly and friendly countries to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership relations, exchange views on the most prominent current regional and international issues, as well as hold meetings with a number of senior officials in the United Nations and other international organizations
