Mr. Attaf Holds Talks with His Sahrawi Counterpart

As part of a series of meetings held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beiset. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the latest developments related to the Western Sahara issue, particularly the developments in the UN process aimed at reaching a just and lasting political solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions .

In this context, the Minister of State reiterated Algeria’s firm and principled position in support of the just Sahrawi cause and the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, stressing that Algeria will continue to support international efforts to ensure that the Sahrawi people can exercise this right, as it is the core of the Sahrawi issue and the basis of any just and lasting political settlement, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, international law and the resolutions of international legitimacy
