National Day of the Algerian Muslim Scouts
May 27, 1941-2026
Every year on May 27, Algeria celebrates the “National Day of the Algerian Muslim Scouts”. This day is a day to pay tribute to the historical path of this ancient national movement, which, since its inception, has contributed to the upbringing of a generation of conscious and responsible young people, as well as to the formation of national figures who played a decisive role in the beginning of the glorious National Liberation Revolution that began on November 1, 1954.
The Algerian Muslim Scouts have consolidated their position as a leading organization in the field of education and culture, playing an important role in preserving national memory and transmitting the values of citizenship, solidarity and selflessness to the younger generation. This is done through their volunteer work, educational campaigns, as well as social and environmental initiatives that strengthen responsibility and a collective spirit.
This year, it is particularly important to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the movement. In particular, the official establishment of this day as a national holiday by Presidential Decree 21-172 is a sign of respect for the spirit and sacrifice of its founder, the martyr Mohamed Bouras. He was executed by the colonial authorities on May 27, 1941, in Hussein Deyde. The martyr founded the first scout troop, Al-Fallah, in 1935, and the Union of Algerian Muslim Scouts in 1939. He dedicated his entire life to educating Algerian youth and instilling in them a spirit of discipline and struggle. In addition, the heroic role of the scouts was particularly evident during the War of Liberation, many of whose members sacrificed their lives for the Motherland.
This national holiday demonstrates the importance of strengthening the bonds between generations and highlighting the important role of conscious and promising youth in the development of the country. It supports the development of Algeria on the path of comprehensive rejuvenation in a state of dignity, respect, security and stability.
On this occasion, the Embassy of Algeria in Astana expresses its deep gratitude and great respect to the leadership and members of the Algerian Muslim Scouts Organization for their continuous contribution to serving the Motherland and strengthening its noble values.
